Many thanks to Stan & Deanna for their efforts to give us all a brilliant weekend. So very pleased to see Paddy Dillon after all this time (He was still trying to sell me a battle ship - private joke). Unfortunatly when I got home I had to go straight to A&E and was kept in for a week of tests, seems I've now got a bowel cancer. The team looking after me are meeting tomorrow to see the way forward. Will keep you informed. Once again great to see everyone Jess

Sometime in 1966/67 I had just returned to the Sqn. having been on my A1 TG Op course. The Duke man was at the time the SSM. I had trouble up at 24 Sigs with a SSM called BATES who disliked Paras and guys from the T.O.S. He was always giving me grief over one thing or other. He had tried to get me RTU from the course. When I got back to the Sqn. having somehow passed the course. The Dukeman had me up to his office and said to me as only he could. What the F##K was going on with you at 24 Sigs. I tried to explain my trouble with SSM Bates and how he hated Paras telling him that he had once told me I was wearing an unofficial Stable belt as R Sigs. Stable belts should be light blue, Dark Blue and Green with buckles leather tied at the side. The Dukeman lips tightened and he told me to get out and join the lads. As I left I heard him shout "Get me the number for 24 Sigs." Later that day he approached me and said. as only Bill DUKE could "None of our lads will have trouble with Master Bates in the future. Hang Slack All
Monday 6 June2016 - Llanelly Hill

Webmaster comments   If I recall he was cross eyed and yes he hated Para's.....

Reunion Minutes - Please find a copy of the reunion minutes on the Newsletters page. May I also bring you attention to para 6 below.

6. Weston on the Green Branch of the Royal British Legion. Craig Treeby spoke about our Branch and the problems we are encountering. After much discussion concluding with a vote of BL Branch Members, the general consensus of opinion was that the Branch would probably have to close due to a lack of volunteers to fill vacant posts. The Chairman stated that should there be no volunteers making contact in the next 28 days then action would be taken to close the Branch. As President of the Branch he thanked all those who had worked for the Branch as committee members, standard bearers and supporters for their work.

Thanks to Robin and Deane for their hard work organising the OCA reunion. It was great to see some "younger" guys who served on my Det in the Falklands conflict with 2 Para (565 Rear Link Detachment.). Nothing but laughter and banter the whole w/end. I hope to see you guys at Caythorpe.

Webmaster comments   Following on from Jimmy's request for funny stories from our days in Squadron. We were chatting over a pint in the Lakes yesterday when I recalled this "incident" and Alan obviously beat me to it. I might add this was 10.00 in the morning and just after the usual welcome to the Squadron interview with Dogger Green over coffee.
